3. Virtual Machine Setup

4. Lab Steps (With Purpose)
✅ Step 1: Install Windows Server on DC01
Set static IP
Rename PC to DC01
Install Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
Promote to Domain Controller (e.g., lab.local)
✅ Step 2: Install Windows 10 on CLIENT01
Rename PC to CLIENT01
Set IP from same range as DC
Join domain: lab.local
✅ Step 3: Create Users, Groups, and OUs
Open Active Directory Users & Computers (ADUC)
Create OUs: HR, IT, Sales
Create users inside those OUs
Create global security groups
✅ Step 4: Apply Group Policy (GPO)
Create a GPO to disable USB, lock screen after 5 mins, etc.
Link GPO to specific OU
Run gpupdate /force on client to test
✅ Step 5: Test Login and Permissions
Login from CLIENT01 using domain users
Check what policies apply
Test access restrictions or drive mappings
Optional Advanced Tasks
Configure file sharing with NTFS permissions
Add a second DC for redundancy
Use PowerShell to create bulk users
Setup roaming profiles
Add a printer via GPO
